Coaches & Team Managers Information Night (link to deck below)

Thank you to everyone who attended the Coaches & Team Managers information night. We hope you found it an informative and enjoyable experience, and an opportunity to catch-up with your peers. Thank you also to our dedicated committee members who made this event possible.

The deck that was presented on the night can be downloaded from here. If you have any questions, please contact our coaching coordinators Kelly & Kristen on lwnc.coach@gmail.com, or our team manager coordinator Lisa on uniforms.lwnc@gmail.com.

Join LWNC as a coach – a commitment that needs passion, a bit of organisation and just a few hours each week.

As a coach, you'll have the chance to share your knowledge and pass on your love for the game to the next generation of players. You’ll also see firsthand your team as they learn, grow and progress.

As a member of our ‘crew’ you will be fully supported by our Coaching Coordinators. The club also offers coaching courses, mentoring for junior and new coaches as well as online resources to help you develop your skills and stay up to date with the latest techniques and practices.

We encourage you to look at Netball NSW accreditation. Their structured pathway is perfect for anyone who wants to take the next step as it offers interaction and learning opportunities for coaches at all levels.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you become a coach?
Click here and provide your details. Our Coaching Coordinators will be in touch to have a chat.

Do I need a Working with Children Check (WWCC)?

Yes, if you are over 18 years, you will need your WWCC. This is available through Service NSW.

Do I need to register with LWNC?

You will need to register as a non-player (there is no charge for this).

What is expected of me as a Coach?

  1. x1 weekly training session per week, focussing on core skills that can be used in a game

  2. Manage the players at Saturday games

  3. Create court partnerships between players

  4. Engage with your team in an empowering way that has players enjoying their netball

  5. Where appropriate encourage players to pursue their interests for example; in representative pathways and/or umpiring & coaching

  6. Be their CHAMPION in all things netball!

Are there resources to help me improve as a coach?

Yes, LWNC provides coaches with access to online resources such as The Netball Coach. In 2024, we will be running a series of workshops to help coaches teach core skills, create training sessions, and introduce set-plays for defenders, middies, and shooters. New and junior coaches are also provided with a mentor. Our Coaching Coordinators are also available to attend training sessions on request.

I am a new coach, what do I need to do?
New coaches should complete The Rules of Netball before their first season. This is a great place to start. We also recommend that you attend the Practical Coaching course at IWNA (date TBA).

Do I need to be a certain age to coach?
LWNC coaches need to be 15 years or over.

When is training?
LWNC trains at Hawthorn Pde, Haberfield on Thursday and Friday evenings. Sessions are allocated in hour blocks. As a club we try to make sure our teams have a training partner so that players can practice their skills in a game-like environment.

What should be included in every training session?
Netballers knees and ankles are a ‘real’ thing. To minimise the risk of injury to your players, coaches should always include elements of The Knee Program into their training sessions.

How do I communicate with my team?
We suggest that you use WhatsApp or LWNC Stack Team App to keep your team up-to-date with weekly times for training and game day court allocations.

How will the club communicate with coaches?
This will be done through the LWNC Stack Team App.

How do I find out my Game Times and Weekly Fixtures?

The Inner West Netball Association (IWNA) PlayHQ provides fixtures by age / grade and division. It also includes weekly updates on wins and losses + ladder. You can download this to your phone.

Do I have to buy a uniform?
No, but it is always a great idea to have some LWNC merchandise to support and show you are a member of the club. Coaches will be provided with a kit containing all the basics such as game + training bibs, balls and first aid supplies.

Remember - players just want to have FUN….You don’t have to be the best to start, but you have to start to be the best.
